Srinagar, May 09 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir is set to receive 200 electric buses under the PM E Drive Scheme, a major push towards sustainable and eco-friendly public transport in the Union Territory.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H. D. Kumaraswamy conveyed the approval in an official communication addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The proposal for the allocation of electric buses was submitted by the Jammu and Kashmir government following a request made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the letter states.
The 200 e-buses are to be deployed for tourism and pilgrimage activities in the ecologically sensitive and hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir. The Union Minister said the move would help advance the objectives of green mobility and reduce vehicular emissions in environmentally sensitive areas.
The communication further mentions that CESL has been directed to include 200 electric buses for Jammu and Kashmir while issuing the next tender under the PM E-Drive Scheme—(KNO)
